About the Band

 

St. Ann’s of Hampton Pipes and Drums was founded in 1990 by the late Fr. William Hewitt.  St. Ann’s is a not for profit organization.  All the proceeds we receive are used for equipment, uniforms, instruction, transportation and donations to organizations in line with our goals and values.  The band roster is comprised of people of all ages, and playing ability.

 

St. Ann's is led by Pipe Major Cliff Roberts.

    

The band tartan is Irish County Louth and our home is based at St. Ann’s of Hampton Roman Catholic Church.  Our drum major is the pastor of St. Ann’s,  Fr. Michael Saharic.  The cap badge we wear is the crest of St. Ann’s – A symbol of Jesus Christ, Mary and her Mother Ann.  The band drum head and the street banner also display this crest.

 

The band has won many awards through the years including our 1st place win in the street band competition at the 2006 and 2007 Irish Festival in New Jersey.

 

The band is registered as a EUSPBA Grade 5 Competition band, and is actively competing on the North East Competition circuit.

 

Some past highlights of note is our trip to Scotland in 2005 for the Marie Curie cancer fund raiser.  The band marched with thousands of pipers and drummers from every nation in the world. 

 

We are especially proud of our private performance for the families of the terrorist attack on the NY World Trade Center.  Our former Drum Major, the late Detective George Roberts NYPD (ret.) led us up to Ground Zero on an evening when the steam was still rising from the debris.  All around us were pictures of those that were lost that terrible day - We played a single set of Amazing Grace and marched off the family platform.  It was an event that changed us all forever.

 

We dedicate that set each time we play to our lost family - Firefighter Brian McAleese, Engine 226 in Brooklyn NY. 

Finally: We have many extended friends and family who have flattered us with their own account of the history and story of St. Ann's of Hampton Pipes and Drums.  We are always entertained by the attention we draw.  The web pages you see are the one and only truly legitimate account of our band, our family and our history.  We are simply - One Band ... One Sound.
